I must once again attribute the inspiration for this mandala to H.P. Lovecraft, specifically "In the Mountains of Madness." Sadly, it doesn't do a very good job of conveying the confusing, jagged peaks containing dark secrets... but it's a nice mandala anyway. And here's the original clip, almost exactly as it was used in the mandala. |
This was the first image I made with the photos of dead, white trees, twisted by the harsh wind and snow of the alpine country. It was a promising start, and I spent far longer than I probably should have looking for a way to complete the image that added rather than detracted from it. I eventually came up with the following two attempts: |
|
This one focuses on the green parts of the photo. I like it too, but it just isn't as striking to my eye as the blue and white ones... although making it symmetrical did help. |
|
I really liked the "wheel" formed by the white braches in this image, as well. I ended up taking some tree parts from a second photo of dead white trees to come up with a satisfactory background and center for it. |

Okay, I'll admit it - this one is hardly the creation of Mandala Painter. Granted, the original design was done in it, but it was devilishly difficult to get good symmetry, so I ended up taking a set of three of the "branches" and replicating it in each quadrant. Then the ends of the sticks were uneven, so I pasted new ends onto most of them. Then the background was uneven, so I diddled and flood-filled and erased until it looked halfway decent. In the end it's still not perfect, but I like it. Two more mandalas from the same source image. I like how the first one looks like a tree. |
